The American Filtration and Separations Society (AFS) will be offering a day-long training on the “Fundamentals of Liquid Filtration” Monday, Oct.15, 2012, at the Embassy Suites Hotel Airport in Philadelphia, Pa.

The AFS says the “Fundamentals of Liquid Filtration” short course is for those who work in the filtration industry such as filter distributors, customer service representatives, sales professionals, and engineers who want a strong basic understanding of the principles of liquid filtration and liquid separation.

The course will give an overview of solid liquid separation with discussions on depth filtration, cross-flow filtration, membrane filters, and solid liquid separation without a filter medium.

Examples of applications to be discussed include chemical processing, wastewater treatment, and beverage production.
Properties such as particle size, particle density, particle charge, and particle shape will be covered in the course. Particle size analyzers and particle counters will also be discussed.

In addition, liquid properties will be discussed, such as pH, volatility, corrosiveness, and chemical composition.

Liquid filtration media, pretreatment, straining equipment, cake filtration equipment, depth filtration equipment, membrane filtration equipment, gravity settling equipment, centrifugal setting equipment and testing will all be included in the course as well.

This course is an eight-hour program that will start at 8 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. with a break for lunch. Attendees will receive a CEU certificate good for .8 credits.

The instructors for the course have a combined experience of more than 100 years in the industry.
