EPA Approves Sage Paramount and Prime for biogas and RNG measurement
(Sage Metering release) — Sage thermal mass flow meters recently received EPA approval for use in biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) applications under the Alternative Measurement Protocols (AMP).
Renewable Fuel Standard compliance
The Renewable Fuel Standard mandates that biogas and RNG used in renewable fuel production be measured using methods specified in 40 CFR 80.155(a)(1) or (2). Producers can now use approved alternative measurement protocols (AMP) by including relevant information in their registration submissions under 40 CFR 80.135(c) or (d).
EPA approval for Sage Paramount and Prime
On February 2, 2024, Sage successfully submitted alternative measurement protocols (AMP) for both Paramount and Prime thermal mass flow meters. These meters are now EPA-approved for use under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program.
The Sage Paramount and Prime thermal mass flow meters are reliable, trusted tools specifically designed for biogas and RNG applications. Their EPA certification under the Alternative Measurement Protocols (AMP) ensures accuracy in biogas flow measurement and compliance with EPA regulations.
Advantages of Sage Thermal Mass Flow Meters for biogas and RNG:
- Accuracy in low flows: Excels at measuring the low flow rates typical in biogas production, making them ideal for monitoring digester gas.
- Wide turndown ratio: Accurately measures a wide range of flow rates, providing flexibility for fluctuating biogas production.
- Minimal pressure drop: Unlike other flow meters, thermal mass flow meters have a low pressure drop, making them suitable for sensitive biogas applications.
- EPA compliance: When selecting a thermal mass flow meter for biogas, ensure the manufacturer has secured EPA approval under the Alternative Measurement Protocols (AMP). Sage Prime and Paramount, both listed on the EPA website, meet these requirements.
